Danby Quarry (Vermont Quarries Corp)

With the demand for white marble on the rise, Vermont Quarries Corp. of Mendon, VT, has amped up its efforts to produce its top-quality material more efficiently so it is readily available for its customers. Owned by R.E.D.
Graniti and Mazzucchelli Marmi of Carrara, Italy, the company has the
largest underground marble quarry in the world — stretching 1½ miles
into Dorset Mountain. While Vermont Quarries took over the production
and operation of the famous Danby Marble quarry in 1992, the white
marble has been quarried for more than 100 years.
